About Us
Our Story
Over a decade of relentless commitment to survivors of sex trafficking in the Pacific Northwest.
Where It All Began
10 Years in Spokane Valley
Helping Captives was born out of a simple, devastating realization: survivors of sex trafficking in our community had nowhere to go. They were being rescued from unimaginable situations — and then left without the long-term support they needed to actually heal.
What started as a small group of people who refused to look away has grown into a full continuum of care — from immediate crisis response to long-term independence support. Over the past decade, we have worked alongside law enforcement, medical professionals, counselors, and community partners to build something that didn't exist before.
Based in Spokane Valley, Washington — a known trafficking corridor along the I-90 and I-5 routes — we operate at the intersection of rescue and restoration, meeting survivors where they are and walking with them as far as they need to go.

What Drives Us
Mission, Vision & Values
Everything we do flows from a clear purpose and a deeply held set of convictions about the worth and potential of every human life.
Our Mission
To provide a comprehensive continuum of care for survivors of sex trafficking — from the moment of crisis through complete, lasting independence. We exist to restore what was stolen and help survivors build lives defined by dignity, not by their past.
Our Vision
A world where every trafficking survivor has access to the holistic, long-term support they need to not just survive, but thrive. We envision communities that refuse to tolerate trafficking and are equipped to care for those who escape it.
Our Values
- ◆ Survivor-centered: Every decision starts with the survivor's well-being.
- ◆ Faith-driven: Rooted in the belief that every person has inherent dignity and worth.
- ◆ Radical transparency: Open books, honest communication, no overhead games.
- ◆ Holistic care: Healing the whole person — body, mind, and spirit.
Faith-Based. Donor-Funded.
Why We Declined Government Funding
Early on, we made a decision that surprised a lot of people: we turned down government grants. Not because we didn't need the money — we desperately did — but because we weren't willing to compromise on who we are.
Government funding comes with restrictions that would have prevented us from offering the faith-based, spiritually integrated care that is central to our model. For many of our survivors, spiritual healing is inseparable from emotional and psychological healing. We refused to strip that away.
This means we are entirely funded by individuals, churches, and private organizations who believe in what we do. Every dollar that comes in is a vote of trust. We don't take that lightly.
